Sikkim, a mountainous region in the eastern Himalayas, has 600 species of birds, or about half of the over 1200 species to be found in India. Perched between Nepal in the west, Bhutan in the east, and Tibet( China) in the north, Sikkim is 7300 square miles in area and contains Mount Khangchendzonga, the third-highest peak in the world. Formerly a kingdom, since 1975 it has been a tiny land -locked province to India. Sikkim, with its rich biodiversity, has 150 lakes ranging in altitude from 200 meters to almost 8000 meters.

Besides birds, Sikkim has 4000 species of flowering plants, making it a botanist's paradise. It has 600 species of orchids, and 40 species of rhododendrons. With the introduction of eco-tourism, including serious birding, Sikkim has begun to focus on enterprise-based conservation.

Day 01: Bagdogra airport –  Yangsum Farm  (5 hrs)
Arrival at Bagdogra airport .
Pick up from Bagdogra Airport, drive across to West Sikkim to arrive at a small village, Rinchenpong. Check into the Farmhouse - Yangsum Farm which is tucked away far from crowds, in idyllic countryside with a backdrop of the Khangchendzonga group of peaks and the skyline of the Singalila Range. The farm's setting, with sweeping vistas of the mountains and valleys make you want to stay on for ever and not return to humdrum city existence.
Overnight at Yangsum Farm.

Day 02: Yangsum Farm
After breakfast, go for a jeep safari to Rinchenpong Monastery which is on top of the hill from where one gets breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the Lepcha Heritage House.
Enjoy a packed lunch at riverside Rishi where you commune with nature at her best.
Return by afternoon.
Evening free to relax.
Overnight at Yangsum Farm.

Day 03 : Yangsum Farm
Awaken early to enjoy spectacular sunrise over the mountains
Day free to explore around the farm.
What can you do:
Spent the day at the farm participating in the farm activities i.e growing organic vegetables, ploughing, feeding the domestic animals etc. Spend the day bird watching in the woods owned by the host.
Go for forest walks or village walks meeting the local people and learning about their style of living etc.
Spend time learning to prepare local ethnic Sikkimese dishes.
Overnight at Yangsum Farm.

day 04 : Gangtok  (6 hrs)
After breakfast ,transfer to Gangtok ( Capital of Sikkim). On arrival at Gangtok, check into Hidden Forest Retreat . Situated at an altitude of 4500 feet above mean sea level, it is spread over three acres of lush green garden with all kinds of trees, bamboos, ferns, flowers, shrubs, lilies and orchids with a variety of birds and butterflies making this their home.
The retreat is an extension of the flower nursery, which specializes in Tissue Culture, breeding Orchids, lilies, Azaleas for over two decades.
Evening free in Gangtok. Over night stay at Hidden Forest Retreat.

Day 05: Excursion to Tsangu Lake at 12,400ft & Nathula Pass at 14,500 ft
After breakfast, depart for Tsangu Lake at 12,400 ft through the Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary.
Must experience:
The famed Yak ride and a cuppa chai in Tsangu Lake.
A visit to the Nathula Pass 
Overnight at Hidden Forest Retreat, Gangtok.
 
 Day 06 : Gangtok to Lachen. ( 126 kms, 6 hrs)
After breakfast, depart for North Sikkim. Lachen 
To quote a Wanderer, who said, “Nature has numerous beautiful aspects and one of these facets comes alive at Lachen” and we hold that as a gospel truth.
This small hamlet resting on a verdant plain land is segregated by cavernous ravines,  the multi-hued mountains, along with snowy peaks and black cliffs, appear to rise from Lachen. Sparsely populated, the surreal beauty of the land beckons the offbeat Wanderer.

Check into Lachen View. Dinner and night stay at Lachen.

Day 07: Lachen to Thangu & Chopta Valley ( 13,000 ft) and Lachung
After breakfast leave for Thangu & Chopta Valley. Thangu valley erupts with a riot of colors in the month of June & July. The cold harsh winter brings its own beauty – the frozen landscape sings a tune like none heard before.
Bring the child within you alive by frolicking in the snow or walking across the meandering frozen Chopta Rivers.
Return to Lachen for lunch.
After lunch, depart for Lachung - a Bhutia village (8160 ft) with a unique self governing body called the Zumsa which substitutes the Panchayat, it is situated along the Lachung Chu river on both sides. It forms the base to explore the valleys up North. T
The Lachung Monastery was built in 1880 and follows the Nyingma sect of Buddhism.
On arrival at Lachung, check into  Le Coxy. Dinner and night stay at Le Coxy,Lachung.
 
Day 08: Yumthang Valley: 12,000ft - your tryst with destiny.
After breakfast , start your journey for the famous Yumthang valley.
Behold the land that changes its color with every season. Come spring, the valley transforms itself into a land of flowers…come harsh winter, the land takes a surreal quality to it. So, if you are traveling November to March, the valley welcomes you in all white…but from April onwards, this same place is adorned with every color under the sun.
A treat for your senses is what this valley promises
Overnight at  Le Coxy, Lachung .

Day 09: Lachung to Gangtok ( 6 Hrs )
After breakfast, depart for Gangtok. See Lachung Monastery. Lunch enroute. On the way, good weather permitting, you get to see the mighty Khangchendzonga range from Singhik.
Arrival at Gangtok late in the afternoon.
Overnight at Hidden Forest Retreat,Gangtok.

Day 10: Gangtok to IXB/NJP.           ( B)
Approx 5hrs drive. A memorable tour draws to a close as we head towards the Bagdogra airport for the onward flight.
